Abstract

Audio media is a learning tool that conveys messages through sound, for example, recorded explanations, stories, conversations, songs, verse readings, and podcasts. In Islamic Elementary Schools (MI), this media is relevant because many learning activities rely on listening skills, ranging from language lessons, the Qur’an and Hadith, to Aqidah and Akhlak. This article aims to examine the characteristics of audio media in learning at MI, including its nature, function, form, advantages, limitations, suitability for elementary school-aged students, and teacher strategies in utilizing it. The study used a library research method by searching, selecting, and thematically analyzing relevant journal articles, books, and research results. The results of the study indicate five core characteristics: messages are conveyed through hearing, require concentration and active listening, can be replayed, stimulate the imagination because it does not present visuals, and is flexible for use both in class and independently. The main limitations include dependence on one sense, sensitivity to sound quality and the classroom environment, and the risk of making students passive. Therefore, audio media is most effective when designed through stages before, during, and after listening, combined with visual media or practical activities, and actively accompanied by the teacher.
