Open Access Policy
Sustainability Education Review (SuER) is committed to the principles of open scholarly communication and provides immediate open access to its published content. All articles are freely available to readers immediately upon publication without subscription, registration, or other access barriers.
SuER supports open access on the principle that making scholarly research freely available contributes to the wider dissemination, visibility, use, and exchange of knowledge across academic, professional, policy, and community settings.
1. Immediate Open Access
All articles published in SuER are made openly available immediately upon publication. The journal does not impose an embargo period on access to published articles.
Readers may access, read, download, share, and use published content in accordance with the terms of the applicable Creative Commons license.
2. Open Access License
Unless otherwise specifically indicated, articles published in SuER are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).
Under this license, users may copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the published material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source, a link to the license is provided, any changes are indicated, and derivative works are distributed under the same or a compatible license as required by CC BY-SA 4.0.
The journal does not impose additional restrictions that conflict with the terms of the Creative Commons license.
3. Author Copyright
Authors retain copyright in their published work. By publishing in SuER, authors grant the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication and authorize SuER to publish, distribute, preserve, and identify itself as the original publisher of the article.
Further details are provided in the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.
4. Reader Access
No subscription or pay-per-view payment is required to access the journal's openly published scholarly content.
Readers may access the full text of published articles through the journal website and may reuse the content in accordance with the applicable license.
5. Self-Archiving and Repository Deposit
Authors are permitted and encouraged to deposit versions of their work in appropriate institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose repositories, personal academic websites, and other lawful scholarly platforms, subject to the conditions described in the journal's Copyright and Licensing Policy.
Authors may deposit the published version of record, provided that the original publication in SuER is appropriately acknowledged and the applicable license is retained.
6. Preprints
The prior posting of a manuscript as a preprint does not automatically disqualify it from consideration by SuER, provided that the manuscript otherwise complies with the journal's submission, originality, and prior-publication policies.
Authors should disclose relevant preprints during submission and, after publication, are encouraged to update the preprint record with a citation and link to the final published version where technically possible.
7. Third-Party Material
Material included within an open access article that is owned by a third party may be subject to different copyright or licensing conditions. Authors are responsible for obtaining any permission required to reproduce copyrighted material and for clearly identifying material that is not covered by the article's Creative Commons license.
8. Accessibility and Dissemination
SuER seeks to promote broad and equitable access to scholarship in sustainability education. Open access is intended to facilitate the use of research by academics, educators, students, policymakers, practitioners, communities, and other interested readers regardless of institutional subscription status.
9. Open Access and Editorial Decisions
The journal's open access model does not affect editorial evaluation. Decisions regarding manuscript acceptance or rejection are based on scholarly quality, relevance, methodological rigor, research integrity, and conformity with the aims and scope of SuER.
